We love a good toilet paper roll craft and we love a good Valentine's Day craft project. We share them all year 'round. For Valentine's Day, we have made toilet paper roll love bugs, toilet paper roll Yodas and a fun toilet paper roll Valentine's Day countdown.

These little Valentine's Day gift boxes are the perfect little carriers for all the Valentine treats your kids would like to share with their classmates and friends. I love how we can repurpose something as simple as an empty toilet paper roll into something super cute and totally useful.

With every step, we are trying to teach our kids about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling. Upcycling toilet paper rolls into craft supplies is a simple example of this concept. It might not seem like much, but every little thing we do can make a difference.

How to Make Valentine's Day Toilet Paper Roll Gift Boxes

The first step in making these little gift boxes is to prepare the toilet paper rolls. Now, because we make so many toilet paper roll crafts we are always sure to collect our toilet paper rolls as soon as they are empty. Be sure to collect them quickly, you don't want to gift someone a roll that has been hanging out in your bathroom too long. Alternatively, you can always purchase cardboard craft rolls, or use rolls from your paper towels, or wrapping paper rolls.

Okay, now that you have your paper rolls, it's time to get crafting. First up, it is best to fold the roll into the gift box shape before painting it. To turn a toilet paper roll into a gift box, press one-half of one end down. It should naturally fold. Then turn it and fold the other half over the top of the first. You now have one sealed end of a toilet paper roll. Repeat with the other end.

You now have a toilet paper roll gift box that is ready to decorate. Unfold the ends and paint the entire roll with your Valentine colors. For ours, we used Baby Pink, dark Vivid Violet, and True Red acrylic paint. We painted 2 coats of paint on each box.

After the boxes dried completely, we moved on to decorating the boxes. This is when you can let your creativity go. Have fun adding cute Valentine stickers or painting your designs on.

The last step is using the marker to write the recipient's name on the box. We kept the message as simple as possible.

Okay, now you have a cute little Valentine's Day gift box - what will you put inside? We filled ours with Valentine candies - candy hearts and chocolates. We also included one of our Valentine's Day jokes for kids. These make a silly addition to the gift box.
