DIY Valentine's Day countdown calendar printable number hearts on board

We can't resist a good Valentine's Day craft...especially a good Valentine's Day toilet paper roll craft. Which makes this a truly crafty and fun way to countdown to Valentine's Day. I think everyone could use an extra sweet treat or two this year. What about 14 days of treats!? DIY valentines day countdown calendar printable toilet paper roll boxes on board

In the past, we shared how to sew a Valentine's Day countdown calendar. We still use ours every single year. But this year I wanted to switch things up and make something even easier and include a Valentine's Day printable. This colourful calendar is a creative project that you can share with your kids, your Valentine or make one just for yourself. Let's have fun counting down the days to V-Day!

DIY Valentine's Day Countdown Calendar

coloured pencil crayons and coloured markers
14 toilet paper rolls (or little paper boxes or envelopes)
scissors
double-sided tape
sheet of foam board or cardboard
hot glue gun

Begin by printing off our printable Valentine's Day countdown heart numbers. Once you have the sheet printed off it's time to colour in the hearts. Be as creative as you like. Use markers, crayons, pencil crayons or whatever you have on hand.

Each day of February you can cross off another heart until you reach Valentine's Day. This is a simple and totally lovely approach to our countdown.

However, if you want to kick things up a couple of notches then it's time to cut out all of the hearts and set them aside while you prepare the 14 toilet paper roll boxes.

If you don't have toilet paper rolls on hand you can also use paper towel rolls or wrapping paper rolls, cut down to the size of a toilet paper roll. You can also buy cardboard rolls on Amazon and at most craft stores. Use your fingers to push one side of the end of the toilet paper roll inward. Then do the same with the other side.

Alternately, you could use little envelopes or little boxes you might have on hand. But, you know us and our love of reusing...toilet paper rolls work best for us. toilet paper roll box final

Okay, it's time to decorate the boxes. We wrapped ours with pink and red cardstock and construction paper. You could totally paint the boxes or cover them in Valentine's Day stickers. Be creative.

Glue them in whatever shape you like...we opted for a big circle...this way we could access the candy easily.

You could keep the numbers in order or totally mix them up. You might notice that I flipped the direction of the numbers in our circle. This way the numbers are easy to read when the calendar is in place. valentines day countdown candy boxes all glued to the board with a heart in the centre

Almost done. The final step is filling the candy boxes. We filled ours with a few chocolates and cinnamon hearts. We also added our silly Valentine's Day jokes inside each box. I'll pull out this Valentine's Day countdown calendar on February 1st and we will enjoy a little treat each day of the month. valentine countdown boxes with chocolate hearts

What will you put inside your calendar?
