We love a fun scavenger hunt. And, we especially love a holiday or seasonal scavenger hunt idea. I've made a few scavenger hunts over the years (we have a fun Christmas lights scavenger hunt and Halloween scavenger hunt), but this time I wanted to make one that the kids could do on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. So, I came up with this Christmas Eve scavenger hunt for kids!

Every Christmas Eve, my kids are visited by Mrs.Claus. She drops off a pair of new Christmas pajamas, neatly wrapped for everyone in the family. In the past, the pajamas have been found on the front porch, in the backyard, and even sitting on our stairs! But, what if Mrs. Claus set up a fun scavenger hunt for the kids? That's how I came up with this idea.

white cardstock paper
scissors
candy canes
Christmas pajamas, Christmas book, or Christmas gift
I've created 10 clue cards - each clue card has a riddle that kids can solve and which will lead them to the next clue. I have provided 2 blank clue cards so that you can write your own clues, if you'd like. As long as you end with the final clue, the scavenger hunt will work.
How to Play our Christmas Scavenger Hunt

Start by printing the clue sheets. Then cut out each clue card. The first clue card can be placed wherever you like. Because I like doing a scavenger hunt on Christmas Eve, I place the first clue on my kid's dinner plate. Then when they sit down to dinner, they find the first clue. You could simply hand the first clue to your child, that would work just fine.
Christmas Scavenger Hunt Clue Answers
I thought I'd provide you with the answers to the clue card, in case you're uncertain.
- Christmas tree
- freezer
- inside a shoe - it's up to you where the shoe might be
- inside the dishwasher or kitchen sink
- in the bathroom
- on or around your home's front door
- on or around your television, or wherever you watch Christmas shows
- in your kitchen utensil drawer
- in or on your dryer or laundry room
- in your child's bedroom
Now that the cards are printed and the locations are known, it's up to you if you add a little candy cane to each card, or not. You also could use this as your main Christmas morning gift scavenger hunt. If that's the case, each clue could be the location of a gift.

The final clue, in your child's bedroom, should be the big gift. For Christmas Eve, this is always a pair of new Christmas pajamas and a new Christmas book. The perfect end to all the Christmas Eve festivities.

If you have more than one child, you could place all of the gifts in one room, or give two final clue cards and the kids can find their gifts in their own bedrooms.
Don't forget you have 2 extra blank cards that you can use to write your own clues on. If you have a pet, you could place a clue near your pet's food dish or bed. Or, you could add a clue that is specific to your front porch, balcony, or backyard.
I love how simple this scavenger hunt is. Kids of all ages can participate and will definitely have fun searching around your home.
