Christmas Chapter Books for Kids
The Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig - You may be familiar with this title because it was recently made into a film. Young Nickolaus embarks on an adventure to the North Pole, to help his father. Along the way, he faces all sorts of obstacles and meets a cast of interesting characters. A fun Christmas adventure book.
The Girl Who Saved Christmas by Matt Haig - This one ticks all the Christmas book boxes. Christmas is in jeopardy. Christmas spirits are low. A mom is ill. Only one child can help save Christmas. But will everything fall into place before Christmas eve? A heartfelt Christmas adventure.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens - There are many different editions of the classic A Christmas Carol. You can find abridged editions, illustrated editions, and editions in various languages. However, I love the original edition, in all, its old English glory. We all know the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his fateful Christmas Eve when he is visited by the 3 ghosts of Christmas. There is something magical about reading this one.
The Holiday Switch by Tif Marcelo - I happen to have a kid who loves a good romance novel. The Holiday Switch is a sweet, high school-level holiday romance story. Complete with modern challenges...like a cell phone switch...that might lead to secrets being revealed and friendships being forged.
Winterfrost by Michelle Houts - I love a folklore tale, especially during the holidays. Bettina must enter the mystical world of the Nisse to rescue her sister and set things straight before Christmas arrives and her parents return home. Will the Nisse be welcoming or too mischievous for their own good?
Father Christmas' Fake Beard by Terry Pratchett - All this silliness you have come to expect from a Terry Pratchett book. 10 silly Christmas stories that turn the Christmas traditions on their heads. A fun Christmas read for kids of all ages.
The Christmas Genie by Dan Gutman - Well you know I love a good would you rather discussion. It's no surprise I loved this book. When a genie crashes into a grade 5 classroom, days before Christmas and offers to grant the class one wish...just one. The debate begins and ends with an interesting result.
The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street by Karina Van Glaser - The holidays have been thrown into a tailspin when the Vanderbeekers landlord announces that they must move by New Year! The Vanderbeeker kids pull together to try and convince their landlord to let them stay in their beloved home. Will their ideas work?
Top Elf by Caleb Zane Huett - Who will be deemed the top elf? Santa's retiring? He's looking for a successor and he's put together a series of Santa-skill challenges. These elves don't know what they're in for! A funny and heartfelt story for Christmas.
Tru and Nelle: A Christmas Tale by G.Neri - This one is a must-read for fans of the first Tru and Nelle book. The Tru and Nelle books are based on the childhood friendship of legendary authors Truman Capote and Nelle Harper Lee. The Christmas Tale takes readers through the Christmas season in Alabama, in the 1930s. The story interweaves history with the adventures of these two friends. It's funny and heartwarming and reveals more about this beautiful friendship.
The Naughty List by Michael Fry - The Naughty List is a hilariously silly story of Bobbie...when she finds herself on Santa's naughty list she embarks on an adventure to the North Pole to set the record straight. A fantastic and funny adventure awaits her and readers too.
Geronimo Stilton A Very Merry Christmas by - Here's one we pull out every single December. My kids loved Geronimo Stilton and his Christmas story is just as hair-brained and cheese-filled as all of his other stories. There are multiple Geronimo Stilton Christmas books and kids will truly enjoy each of them. In A Very Merry Christmas Geronimo is heading to New York City for Christmas...but it's never as easy as hopping on a plane for Geronimo. Will he make it? Will his luggage make it?
The Case of the Twin Teddy Bears Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene - We love a good mystery and one set during the holidays is extra special. When antique teddy bears start disappearing Nancy is certain there is more going on than a simple teddy bear stealing scheme. What is it about these teddy bears that make them so desirable? Follow the clues and find out.
Aggie Morton: Mystery Queen Peril at Owl Park by Marthe Jocelyn - Here comes another Christmas mystery...this time featuring our amateur detective Aggie Morton (inspired by Agatha Christie). When Aggie and her friend Hector Perot travel to Owl Park, to spend Christmas with Aggie's family, they are looking forward to exploring the expansive mansion. However, things take a turn when they discover a body under the Christmas tree. Can Aggie and Hector solve the mystery and save Christmas?
Jingle by Gordon Korman - Winter break was supposed to be a chance to take a trip, but instead Griffin Bing and his friends are stuck volunteering at a Christmas festival...as elves! When they thought things couldn't get any worse they are blamed for the theft of an expensive Christmas trinket and now they have to figure out who the actual thief is. Can they turn things around this Christmas?
