Things to do in April

Okay, I know that it is already April 13th…but this month has quickly gotten away from me. I knew I had to share a few ideas of things to do this month with all of you. April is one of the best months of the year, in my opinion. Not only is it spring, but it is the part of spring when everything starts to turn green and come to life. As we drove down the street yesterday my daughter remarked how green everything was out her window…beautiful. I also love April because of Earth Day. I clearly remember when I was in high school heading down to Nathan Philips’ Square with a group of friends to listen to music and be inspired by the speakers. It was very groovy. So, what is happening in April this year?

Green Living Show (April 13-16)

Head over to the Direct Energy Building in Toronto and find out about all the great “green” companies and products you could ever want to know about.

TIFF Kids International Film Festival (April 10-22)

Kids love movies too, it only makes sense that they would have their very own international film festival. Watch a film, learn about film, make a film…whatever…check out the amazing list of events.

Take your family out to the ball game (ongoing)

Let’s face it the Leafs and Raptors are not so great..the Jays are awesome. Why not head out to the ballpark to cheer for the home team. Jr. Jays Saturdays are a great way to introduce your kids to baseball, with activities in the Jr. Jays Zones…you have to check this out.

Head to the Evergreen Brickworks

There are a couple of awesome events taking place this month…Earth Day and reading & book signing with Barbara Reid. Earth Day will be filled with all sorts of activities for kids of all ages. And, Barbara Reid is a world renowned author & illustrator of classic children’s books like “Picture a Tree” and “Read me a Story.”

Plant some seeds

It’s that time of the year. If you aren’t sure how to get started check out this tutorial on planting seeds in egg cartons. We started ours a week ago and they are sprouting and will be ready to plant in the garden next month!

Keep Toronto Reading

Our awesome Toronto Public Libraries are hosting Keep Toronto Reading during April. Find out about the many events taking place here.

Get ready to clean your shoreline

Last year our family volunteered to clean up our shoreline and this year we plan to do it again. The event takes place across Canada in May. Check our Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up site for more details.

Do some spring cleaning

On Saturday April 22st (9am-3pm) the Neighbourhood Unitarian Church at 79 Hiawatha Rd, Toronto, will be accepting your old electronics. Old TVs, radios, VCRs, printers, if it has a cord they will take it. In partnership with the Ontario Electronic Stewardship this Church will be recycling your e-waste.
