We have been busy getting ready for back to school. You know I love celebrating the return to school with a big pile of books for kids and what goes perfectly with a book? A new bookmark! I've designed another set of back to school bookmarks, but this time I wanted to include a classic pencil bookmark printable.

These bookmarks are perfect for the classroom or home. Kids will have the opportunity to add their own names to the pencil bookmark...how fun is that!? And, in the past my bookmarks haven't needed a ribbon, but this time around I decided to add the hole for the ribbon.
Printable Pencil Bookmarks and Back to School Bookmarks
our printable pencil bookmark and back to school bookmarks
white cardstock paper
pencil crayons
crayons
colorful cardstock
double-sided tape
single hole punch
narrow ribbon
scissors
Begin by printing our pencil bookmarks and our back to school bookmarks. I prefer printing our bookmarks on white cardstock because the heavier paper weight means the bookmarks are more durable. I also like how bright the pencil crayon color is on the cardstock. However, if you only have access to standard printer paper then that will work just fine.
Once you've printed the bookmarks you can cut them out and start coloring. I love the pencil bookmarks because they have the space for kids to add their own names. They can print or write their names. Encourage the kids to be creative. Maybe draw bubble letters or block letters. This is a fun opportunity for younger kids to practice writing their names.
Once the coloring is done I like to add a second piece of cardstock, again to increase the durability of the bookmark. If you don't have cardstock you could use construction paper. Use the double-sided tape to adhere the bookmark to a sheet of cardstock and then cut about ¼ inch around the bookmark. This will leave a nice, colorful border around the bookmark.
Now that the bookmark is printed, cut out, and colored it's time to use the single hole punch to punch out the hole in the top of the bookmark where the ribbon will go. I positioned the hole so that it is easy to punch. And, if you don't have a hole punch then you can always leave it and go without the hole and ribbon. It's up to you.
For the ribbon, simply cut a 6-inch length and feed it through the hole. You can either tie a single knot or your can loop the ribbon in place.
With the ribbon attached, it's time to pop this bookmark inside your favorite book. Be sure to check out all of our awesome booklists - we have a booklist for every holiday, age, and theme you could imagine! Of course, we have a collection of back to school books too!
How to Use Pencil Bookmarks
The printable pencil bookmark is a great resource for teachers, homeschoolers and parents. The pencil bookmarks can be used as name plates for each student's desk, simply tape them to the student's desktop when they are completed. They can also be taped to the classroom door, as a way to welcome the students to the classroom. These bookmarks can also be used as a fun way to organize student's work that you hang on a bulletin board. Of course, they can simply be used as a bookmark too. How would you use our pencil bookmarks?
