So, what flavor of ice cream is your favorite? Obviously, you are going to have to decide what "flavor" of ice cream you want to make. I decided to opt for neopolitan ice cream - the classic combination of strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate. There's a favorite for everyone with this combination. But, you could choose any fun flavor of ice cream for your pom pom ice cream craft.

Egg Carton Ice Cream Cone

The first step is to make the egg carton ice cream cones. Use scissors to cut your egg carton apart. For the cones, you want the tall dividers in the egg carton.

Cut all around them. Trim them down to the size you need.

When you have trimmed the egg carton down, it is time to paint the egg carton ice cream cones. Use a brown acrylic paint and set them aside to dry.

Ice Cream Pom Poms

While the egg carton cones dry, it is time to start making a pile of pom pom scoops of ice cream. For this, I used the smallest pom pom maker tool that I had. I wanted small scoops that would fit inside my egg carton cones. I have shared a tutorial and a video on how to make pom poms. Be sure to check those out. Briefly, you wrap both sides of the pom pom making tool with the yarn.

Then close the pom pom maker and use the scissors to cut along the seam. Then tie a piece of yarn super tightly around the centre. Then open the pompom maker, and you have a pom pom.

Once you have all of your pom pom scoops of ice cream, it is time to assemble. Run a line of glue along the top edge of the egg carton cone and press a pom pom into the glue. Then, continue gluing and pressing the next ice cream pom poms on top of the previous ones.

When you've added the three scoops, you can then add the small red pom pom on top with another dollop of glue. Make at least 5 pom pom ice cream cones for your garland.

Cut a long length of string. I chose to use the pink yarn for my garland. Tie a little knot in one end and attach a small safety pin to the knot. Press the safety pin into the pom pom. If you can try and feed it through the centre of the pom pom. You can poke around the pom pom and find the string you used to tie the pom pom together; this is the centre of the pom pom. When you feed the garland string through this spot, it will definitely stay in place.

Feed the string through the pom pom ice cream cone and then remove the safety pin and your garland is ready to hang.

I love how these turned out. They would be fun to hang in the kitchen! Or, at a birthday party. I am going to hang mine in the kitchen. The perfect addition to my summer kitchen vibes. You could also turn these into an ice cream cone wreath. Just use the glue gun to attach them to a metal wreath frame. There are so many ways to use these pom pom ice cream cones.
