We’re going on a bear hunt

Well, technically it was a dog, goat and bird hunt…and it was fun! This week Active Kids Club with Polarn O. Pyret are challenging families to get outside and play EVERYDAY. Yesterday was a gray and rainy day where we live. I had to come up with an outdoor activity that we could do in the small window of time we had after school and before ballet class…not very much time and not the greatest weather conditions. So, what did we do?

We went of a bear hunt. The girls and I walk to and from school everyday, we take the same path along a pretty major street. I decided to take along 6 small toys and hide them along the sidewalk. When I picked up the girls from school…with boots and umbrellas…we went in search of our tiny toys.
I crossed my fingers and hoped that no one had removed the toys, they hadn’t! The girls were really excited to be searching for the toys. And when they finally found them…huge smiles.

When we got home, we pulled out our “We’re Going On A Bear Hunt” book and read the tale of the family who goes looking for a bear. This was a very simple way to play outdoors today…rain or shine. What will we do today?

How creative! And what fun for your kiddos! I’ve got to try this with my boys.

What a wonderful idea. I love it. I also like that you didn’t tell them until after school. I bet that made the walk home so much fun for them. I remember walking home from school each day growing up and wishing I was home faster. I bet this made them not want it to end. Thanks for sharing on Monday Madness.

Great idea! I think I’ll try to do something similar tomorrow in the garden – thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for linking up to the Outdoor Play Party!

It works well in a backyard or garden too! I use this approach to get children to explore nooks and crannies they’ve not yet found.

Wow, now this is a fun rainy day activity. I love that you thought of a way to squeeze something fun in even though you had tight schedules. Thanks for sharing on Monday Madness.

Oh what fun! Such a creative outdoor play idea in the rain. My girls would love to find their toys hidden outside.
Thanks for linking this up to the outdoor play party!
