How to Make Candy Cane Reindeer Craft

6 candy cane reindeer with pom pom noses and pipe cleaner wrapped antlers

I love a cute Christmas craft project. In particular, I love a cute reindeer craft. I've shared many fun reindeer crafts and activities over the years, and these cute candy cane reindeer are one of my all-time faves. Let's see what you think.

When I was a little girl, my mom would pull out the craft supplies at Christmas. We didn't craft very often, so it was always memorable when we did. One fond memory I have is making candy cane reindeer. The traditional - pipe cleaner antlers, googly-eyed, red-nosed reindeer candy cane craft that we all made back in the '80s.

I gave one to all my classmates and they adorned the top of every gift we gave that year. Honestly, I still make those reindeer with my kids. Love them. However, this year I had a vision in my mind of how we could reinvent and upgrade the traditional candy cane Rudolph and his reindeer friends.

Enter these super cute printable reindeer faces and this sweet candy cane reindeer. Here's how we made them.

How to Make Candy Cane Reindeer

candy canes
cellophane tape
brown pipe cleaners
little red pompoms (black ones too, if you like)
hot glue gun
scissors
white card stock

The first step is to prepare the candy canes. Lay two candy canes side by side and secure them together with a piece of clear cellophane tape. Eventually, the tape will be hidden by the reindeer's face. Next, wrap the brown pipe cleaner around the two "antlers". You could skip the brown pipe cleaner step, but I thought that it really completed the look of the reindeer antlers.

Once your candy canes are prepared, it's time to print out and cut out your candy cane reindeer faces printable. I printed ours on cardstock, but you could totally print them on regular printer paper. After printing them off, it's time to cut out the little faces.

Okay, warm up the glue gun and adhere the noses to the faces. I chose to make our reindeer all Rudolph. A black nose would make your reindeer another member of Santa's team.

When the noses are in place, use the glue gun to adhere the face to the candy canes. A little dab, right on top of the tape and your reindeer candy cane is complete.

Aren't they adorable? We will be using them to adorn all of our gifts this year. My nieces and nephews are going to LOVE these little guys. Time to make Santa's entire team of reindeer! They would also make fun stocking stuffers for Christmas morning. And, how fun would these be as part of a teacher gift of hot chocolate and a Christmas mug? Of course, making these reindeer would be a fantastic Christmas classroom activity for kids of all age.
