Green Life - DIY

Once you have realized that you are cleaning with things that actually make your home more harmful to live in, it is tempting to throw everything in the trash. If you are looking for the proper place to dispose of your chemicals, check into how your community disposes of hazardous household waste. In Toronto, you can look here to find your closest hazardous waste depot. However, most experts suggest that you simply finish using whatever products you have...and when it is time to buy new...buy green. Why not try making your own cleaners?
Here are some homemade alternatives to everyday cleaners
* Find out how to make a non-toxic cleaning kit from Care2.com.
* Follow this link to the David Suzuki Foundation for a downloadable sheet with recipes for making; all purpose cleaner, carpet cleaner, cutting board cleaner, dishwasher detergent and more.

As for us, we primarily use vinegar and water to clean around here. Add some baking soda and you've got an awesome alternative to abraisive cleaners, bath tub cleaners, toilet cleaner, window cleaners. But, I am totally going to try the ideas from the David Suzuki Foundation. They look super easy and convenient. Do you use any homemade cleaners? What works at your house?
