First Day...

By Jen

On the first day of winter my kids wake up and rush to the window to look for snow. They are always disappointed to see the same brown, dead grass that they saw out the window the autumn day before.  On the first day of spring I am the one tearing open the blinds hoping to see a garden full of flowers. Nope. On this first day of spring the ground is covered in snow...I'm the disappointed one. Fortunately, just like my kids, I know that with the change of season comes the hope and promise that things are going to change. Things will get green. The grass will grow. The buds will bloom. We'll get there. It's going to take a little time.

Why do we love spring? I'll give you 3 good reasons to LOVE spring

Sun, sun, sun...the increase in daylight hours changes everything about a person's mood...not to mention giving us more time to enjoy the outdoors...the exposure to more sun means the exposure to more Vitamin D and the beginning of better health.

Growth...another year of life is starting to grow...whether it's in the garden or the growth of the kids...spring is a whole new opportunity to learn and grow.

Sweet spring crops...not much grows around here in the winter...with spring comes fresh vegetables, grown locally...I can taste the fresh asparagus already.

The kids' top 3 reasons to LOVE spring

Flowers grow and the sky is so blue and blue is my favourite colour.
Looking forward to riding bikes and riding scooters again.
Digging in the garden.

And, for a man's opinion...I go to my DH

The sensation of change. Everyday is a little bit warmer, that little bit greener.
Looking forward to the day you lose the toque and then the gloves.
Getting out on the bike.

Now, it's your turn. What is your reason for loving spring? What are you looking forward to now that the seasons have changed? Is there an extra spring in your step today?
