I don't know about your family, but my family LOVES spinach dip. You know the dip you make and eat from a hollowed-out pumpernickel loaf. It's been a fave for many, many years. Well, I wanted to take this favorite update it, and make it a whole lot more festive!

Simple Spinach Dip and Puff Pastry Christmas Tree Platter

For the Spinach Dip:

1 (10 oz) package of frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 (8 oz) package of cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste

For the Christmas Tree:

2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
2 tablespoon melted butter
1 teaspoon garlic powder

spinach dip ingredients in bowl unmixed

Let's start by making the spinach dip filling for the Christmas tree. Be sure your cream cheese is soft and your frozen spinach has been thawed and drained. I like to place my thawed spinach in a dry tea towel and wring out any excess water.

spinach dip mixed in a white bowl

You will need to mix together the spinach, cream cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Stir until all the ingredients are fully combined. Set the bowl of filling aside.

Now it's time to preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

It's now time to make the puff pastry tree. Again, be sure that you have fully defrosted the puff pastry before you start to work with it. Begin by rolling out one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the puff pastry into a large triangle, this will form the base layer of the Christmas tree. Place the triangle of puff pastry on the baking sheet.

Now, use an off-set spatula to spread the spinach dip evenly over the triangle of puff pastry. If you don't have an off-set spatula you could use the back of a large spoon, you just don't want to use anything that might pierce the puff pastry.

Next, it's time to roll out the second sheet of puff pastry, on a lightly floured surface, and place it over the spinach dip-covered triangle. Use a sharp knife to trim the edges to match the triangle shape of the bottom triangle.

Now, let's bring the Christmas tree to life. Using a sharp knife, cut about 2" horizontal slits along both sides of the triangle. Be sure to not cut across the tree. You need to leave the center intact to form the tree trunk. The slits you cut will be the branches.

Once you have all the slits cut, gently twist each strip a few times to create a spiral effect, resembling tree branches. Now the spinach dip will be visible on the outside of each Christmas tree branch.

Melt the butter in a pot on the stovetop or in a microwave. Once melted stir in the garlic powder. Use a pastry brush to brush the garlic butter all over the puff pastry. This will give the tree a golden brown finish and add a hint of garlic too.

Baking Instructions:

Pop the puff pastry Christmas tree inside the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed nicely.

Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack. When you're ready to serve slide it onto a large serving platter. Once cooled you can wrap the tree, on the serving platter, with plastic wrap and place it in your fridge. To reheat, place it in a 350 oven for 5 minutes, to bring it back to room temperature.

The puff pastry Christmas tree is best served warm but can be served at room temperature. You can provide a small knife for guests to slice a piece of the tree and make individual servings.

The Christmas tree spinach dip puff pastry recipe is so easy to make and is perfect for holiday gatherings. It is sure to bring a smile to your guests' faces.
