I love making a cute wreath. And, I made a super fun Easter bunny pom pom wreath last year. You know, the kind with the giant bunny ears! But, this time around, I wanted to make a cute Easter wreath with egg carton carrots and pom pom bunnies. This wreath is an adorable Easter decoration that you can make yourself.

My original idea was to make egg carton carrots. After making egg carton ice cream cones, I knew carrots would be fun to make. With little pom pom carrot tops! Then, I started playing around with pom poms and decided to try making pom pom Easter bunnies. This little Easter wreath evolved from there.

How to Make an Egg Carton Carrot

The first step in making egg carton carrots is to cut up the egg carton. You will want to cut the tall dividing part of the egg carton to make your carrots. I used a craft knife to cut these sections, but you could totally use a pair of scissors.

Once you have enough carrots cut, it's time to paint them. I decided to paint a coat of white acrylic paint on the carrots. I wanted the orange paint to be bright, and adding the white paint gave the carrots a good base. So, paint the carrots with a coat of white and orange paint. Until you have the depth of color you like. Set them aside to dry.
How to Make a Carrot Top Pom Poms

While the carrots dry, it's time to work on the carrot tops. I made small (1 ⅜" pom pom tool) green pom poms for the carrot tops. I've created a video sharing how to make pom poms over on YouTube. But, here's a quick tutorial. Start by cutting a 6-inch length of green yarn. You'll need one for each pom pom. I used two shades of green yarn to make the carrot tops. Put the green yarn together and wrap the yarn around one side of the pom pom maker tool.

Then, close the first side and wrap the second side of the tool. Don't cut the string, just keep wrapping around the second side. Once both sides are wrapped, close the tool tightly and trim the yarn.

While holding the tool closed, cut the yarn all the way around and along the channel in the tool. Then feed the length of yarn around and tie it as tightly as you can. Open the tool, and the pom pom will pop off. Trim the pom pom however you like.

Now that you have the carrot toppers, we can make our carrots. Run a line of hot glue inside the top edge of the egg carton carrot. Press the pom pom carrot top into the opening. Hold, and it will be glued in place.

Once you have a carrot top made for each carrot, it's time to make some pom pom bunnies. These are so simple to make. Use the same pom pom making process as above. For the bunnies, I used a creamy colored yarn. I made a pile of cream pom poms. And then I cut two little bunny ears from a sheet of cream colored felt.

Now, it's time to make the wreath. For my wreath, I started with a 6-inch diameter embroidery hoop. Add a dollop of glue to the hoop and press a carrot into the glue. Let it dry a little and then make your way around the hoop, adding alternating bunnies and carrots.

When you make it all the way around, it's time to tie a loop of creamy yarn to hand the wreath from. I actually ended up not needing a loop of yarn for mine. I just pressed a tack into the wall, and rested the wreath on the tack.

This is a fun Easter craft for older kids, teens, and adults to make. I had a lot of fun making ours. I even made an extra one to give to my sister-in-law as a hostess gift. What do you think? Where will you hang your Easter wreath?
