Cute Pom Pom Reindeer Ornament

4 cute Pom Pom REINDEER Ornaments

You might already know that I love anything reindeer related at Christmastime. I'm a big fan of making reindeer crafts and playing reindeer games. This year, I wanted to combine my love of reindeer crafts with my love of making pom poms. I knew I could create something super cute and easy for anyone to make. Cannot wait to share how to make these pom pom reindeer ornaments.

My love of Santa's reindeer goes back to my childhood, and my fave Christmas song was Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer. I remember making actions to go with the song. Dancing and singing about Rudolph, Santa, and all the reindeer. Love those memories so much. So, when I had kids, I wanted to pass my love onto them. We have made plenty of cute reindeer crafts - candy cane reindeer, egg carton reindeer, mason jar reindeer, and more. I've also designed printable reindeer word games, a reindeer dice game, and more. But these pom pom reindeer are a contender for my favorite reindeer craft project.

How to Make Pom Pom Reindeer

The first step in making these pom pom reindeer is to make the pom poms. If you've never made a pom pom before, never fear, they aren't super hard to make. Especially if you use my favorite pom pom making tool. I know some people make pom poms using a piece of cardboard, but I am telling you it is worth the investment to buy these little pom pom makers. You will make consistent and quick pom poms. I shared a video, on YouTube, where I show how to make a pom pom. Or, follow these instructions.

Okay, start by opening one side of the tool. Wrap the brown yarn around the open side. Wrap it tightly and keep wrapping until you've filled the arch at the bottom of the tool. Then close this side, don't cut the yarn. Open the second side of the tool and wrap this second side with the yarn. Close the second side of the tool, and cut the yarn.

Once you have wrapped both sides and the tool is closed, use your scissors to cut along the channel, all the way around the tool.

Feed a length of yarn around the tool and pull it tightly and knot it. This length of yarn will become your hanger for the ornament, so make sure it's at least 6 inches long. Be sure to knot it tightly. Then open the tool and the pom pom will pop out.

Trim the pom pom as you like. Tie the two lengths of yarn into a loop. Make the loop as long as you like, to hang the ornament on your tree.

Now, it's time to print our reindeer antler template. I've created a printable sheet that has two styles of reindeer antlers for you to choose from. Print the template and cut out the antlers. Trace the antlers onto colorful cardstock. You will want to use cardstock because you need the antlers to be sturdy. Cut out the antlers.

You will want to slide the antlers into your pom pom to test the length of the antler. Depending on the size of your pom pom, you might want to trim down the end of the antler. Once you decide on the length of your antlers, run a bead of hot glue along the end of the antler, tuck it into the pom pom, at the top of the pom pom (where the yarn loop is). Place one antler on each side of the hanging loop.

The final touch is adding the little red nose. Of course, you could add a black, brown, or whatever color you like nose. I use a little craft pom pom with a dollop of hot glue. Press it in place. Your pom pom reindeer Christmas ornament is ready to hang.

How cute are these? Right? You can fill your tree with all of Santa's reindeer. These would be super cut draped over the neck of a bottle of wine, as a gift. And, they would be a great gift topper for everyone on your list.
