I know that the transition back to school can sometimes be a little rocky. This is why I like to give the kids plenty of time to work through that transition. Providing kids with back to school books can really help. And, play is a great way to help too. Yep, these would you rather back to school questions ask all kinds of silly school related questions of kids.

To begin with, you will want to print our back to school would you rather questions. I like to print ours on cardstock. This way they are more durable and can be played with over and over again. However, you could simply print them on regular cardstock, especially if you are printing enough for an entire classroom of kids.

Once you have the sheets printed, it’s time to cut out the individual question strips. Each strip has one would you rather question. Our back to school edition includes questions like…

  • would you rather have dinner with your teacher or have dinner with your principal?
  • would you rather only walk backward or only walk on your hands at school?
  • would you rather write a book or read a book?

The questions vary from silly to a little more serious. In fact, they are a great way for kids to open up about what they are excited about and what they are concerned about returning to school.

How to Play Would You Rather with Kids

There are so many different ways to use our would you rather questions. This is a really fun game to play in the classroom, during that first week back to school. Divide the students into small groups and print enough copies so that each group has a handful of questions to debate. Then give the kids some time to contemplate their answers and discuss what they think. You can open up the discussion to the class as a whole.

Alternatively, would you rather questions make great writing prompts. Students use one question, come up with their answer and write a paragraph to support their decision.

There are also ways to play at home. Tuck a question a day into your child’s lunch box, during the first week or so, back at school. They can debate the questions with their new and old friends over lunch break.

Also, I keep a copy in our car’s glove box and pull out the questions on a long summer road trip. When everyone starts to get a little bored, start asking would you rather questions and see how the discussions go. I find some of the best conversations I have with my kids happen in the car.
