What's Up November?

By Jen

stuff to do in november
Already November? Can't be! But, there it is on the calendar, November 2nd. In general, I find that November sort of flies by in the wink of an eye. I know the stores want us to think it's December already. So, I think this year I would like to try and slow November down a little. Take some time to enjoy the quiet of November, before the chaos of December hits. Here are a few things that are on our list of November Notables...
Movember - Last year my cousin-in-law was crowned the "Man of Movember" for Vancouver. Movember is an incredible fundraiser for men's health, specifically prostate cancer, that has men everywhere growing their moustaches! I cannot wait to follow the growth of his 'stash this month.
Clean Up The Garden - I need to get into our garden and close it up for the season. I'll be sharing what we do over on Growing Green Fingered Kids...a fabulous site filled with gardening fun for kids.
Virtual Book Club for Kids - This month we are featuring the author Tomie dePaola. We already have our books picked out and ready to go. Head to your library and be sure to come share your ideas on Monday, November 19th.
Have Fun With Arthur - Our puppy is growing up so quickly, he's practically a dog. On November 17-18 we'll be heading to Winter Woofstock and checking out all the funny doggie stuff!
21 Days of Gratitude - As we approach American Thanksgiving a huge group of bloggers have put together an amazing event 21 Days of Gratitude. For 21 days we hope to share and spread gratitude over the internet. My post will be up this Saturday the 3rd. I can't wait to let you know what I am grateful for...well, one of the many things I am grateful for.
Remembrance Day - I cannot wait to sit in my daughters' school gymnasium and watch their Remembrance Day ceremony. There are always moving musical performances, readings and speeches...I can't wait.
Take Care of My Health - I understand the importance of my health. Every individual's health has an impact on someone else. So, every 3 years I have a colonoscopy. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the young age of 53. I have no plans to follow in my mother's footsteps. If you have a family history of colon cancer ,or if you are over the age of 50, please talk to your family physician. Colon Cancer is one of the most treatable kinds of cancer when caught early. Trust me, a colonoscopy is not nearly as terrible as you might think...and cancer is WAY worse.
Play Outdoors - It can be challenging to get outside at this time of the year, it is usually raining. But with the right clothing I think we can get outside and enjoy.
Think About Lunchtime Health - I know that packing lunches can be a real challenge, but as a mom who has kids that come home for lunch, let me assure you it is hard to come up with healthy options for at home lunches too. This month I am going to make this challenge a priority and I hope to share what I learn here and on Pathways to Life...I healthy lifestyle site that I contribute to.
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - A few years ago I wasn't working on American Thanksgiving and I discovered my number 1 guilty pleasure the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I love it. As cheesy and ridiculous as it may be...I have grown to look forward to it every year.
Get Planning for December - The only way to tackle December is to be prepared. I can't wait to start making my "to-craft" list, my "kids to-craft" list, etc, etc. I can't be the only one with a million to-do lists for December!
So, what do you say. Are you ready for November? What's on your November to-do list? Anything exciting planned? Anything not so exciting planned?
