Valentine's Day Card Swap

Isn't all the technology in our lives wonderful? We can Skype, email and Facebook anyone and anywhere in the world. Seriously awesome. Imagine being a child growing up right now. How can they possibly understand the grand size of the world when they can find out about and see all around the world in an instant? I suppose only time will tell. What does this have to do with Valentine's Day? Well, a few weeks ago a group of fellow bloggers and I decided to enter into a good old fashioned Valentine swap. Simply exchange address, make a card and send it by snail mail. Isn't there just something wonderful about getting mail...holding something in your hand that someone made, someone wrote, someone sent from somewhere else! 

We jumped into this one with great enthusiasm. Although my girls sort of thought it was strange to send something to someone they didn't know - they embraced the idea. And this is what we sent to our friends.

1. Take the toilet paper roll in your hand and press the centre of one side, crimping the roll and making the top of the heart.

2. Pinch the opposite side of the roll, creating the bottom, pointy end of the heart.

3. Cut the card stock into a size that will fit into your envelope.

4. Choose your colours and place paint on a plate...stamp the toilet paper heart into the paint and onto the card stock.

 

4. Cut ½" off the top of the toilet paper roll (the end that is wet)...now continue stamping with the roll, set the small piece aside to dry.

5. Continue stamping and cutting the roll, you may use more than one roll.

6. Set the card stock aside to dry, once dry turn them over and write your Valentine' message.

 

1. Once the small pieces of stamped toilet paper roll have dried, using a cross-stitch needle, poke a small hole into the top of the heart (I positioned my holes on the top two bumps of the heart, you could also position the hole in the top centre).

2. Feed the string through the hole and make a small knot.

3. Leave enough string to make a comfortable necklace, and repeat for the second hole.

4. Done.
