The P.A. day arrived and what were we going to do? Put on our winter gear, grab the sleds and head to the park. We had to make one quick stop along the way, to pick up the ingredients for an afternoon of baking. When the sledding was done, the kids were sufficiently exhausted it was time to head home...uphill! At home we had some lunch and got ready to bake. Today it would be Martha Stewart's "Kitchen Sink Cookies". I thought they fit the theme of the new blog.
I have made these cookies before...they are delicious. As the name states, these cookies have everything in them but the kitchen sink. Depending on your, or your child's, preferences you can make a variety of substitutions and omissions. For instance; to take these to school you will need to eliminate the nuts, substitute cranberries for raisins, butterscotch chips for chocolate chips, almonds for walnuts.
So, we piled the ingredients onto the kitchen counter and got ready to bake. This is a good tip: measure your ingredients ahead of time...so when you need to add things like chocolate chips they are ready to go! This makes it especially easy when you are working with little ones...they can dump away. Older kids can do the measuring on their own...every moment is a teaching moment...right?!
Once everything is mixed and ready to go, it's time to bake away...
There is no reason why cookies must be relegated to a plastic container or generic cookie tin. For these homemade cookies I busted out my beautiful Hughes Corn Flower glassware pattern serving plate...a wedding gift to my grandparents, that was passed on to me on the occasion of my wedding. Why not! They look gorgeous and they taste divine! Enjoy!
