Welcome to this week's Outdoor Play Party. I can't wait to see how everyone has been playing outside around the world. The last couple of weeks have seen some strange weather in Toronto. One week we had incredibly cold weather (-30C) and then the next week we had unseasonably warm weather (+13C). It's like mother nature cannot decide if it's really winter or not. On one of the warm and rainy days my daughters and I went for a walk. While on our walk, we discovered that nature was alive with sounds.

The squirrels were frantically scurrying around collecting up food, after they had been hidding away from the freezing temperatures for days. The sound that most intrigued us was the sound of water rushing along the road. The snow was all melting and thawing and the gutters had turned into rushing rivers.

We were even able to clear off a few catch basins, the entry point for rain/snow water into the city's sewer system. When the winter thaw arrives, it is important to clear off catch basins, or flooding will result. It's also fun to clear the snow away, because then the river of water can run free. Do you remember to listen while you are out on a walk with your kids? You might be missing out on some cool stuff if you just open your ears.
Last week's Outdoor Play Party was filled with some amazing activities. Discovering and learning in the snow and in the sunshine.

Housing a Forest created the most magnificent rainbow coloured icicles...it took some patience...but the end result is glorious...check out the post.

And at the other end of the weather spectrum, Mummy Musing and Mayhem were busy stamping outdoors with seed pods.
