Olympic Pride : Yoplait Olympic Prize Pack Giveaway #ProudtobeCDN

By Jen

Yoplait Olympic Prize Pack Giveaway The countdown is officially on. Only one month until the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Our entire family is super excited to watch the Olympics. Ever since I was a child, I have loved the Olympics...especially the Winter Games. I'm not sure if it's because I grew up inside an arena...running from one ringette game to the next. Perhaps it's because I love the cold weather and the passionate athletes...whatever it is, the Olympic spirit always sweeps me up in a big ball of Canadian Olympic pride.

One month from now our family will be gathered around watching the athletes enter the stadium at the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony is such a fun and emotional time for our family. We watch intensely as the athletes enter Olympic stadium...trying to guess which country will be announced next, trying to name each country based on their flag and guessing who will have the most athletes. The Olympics are a great learning opportunity for our kids. We discuss geography, mathematics and sociology. There is also the intangible, emotional side of the Olympics. I cannot explain why watching the faces of the enthusiastic athletes, as they march in the stadium, brings a tear to my eye. I really don't know why. To me it is magic. I love that my children feel this magic as well. yoplait olympic prize pack

I can't possibly say I have 1 favourite event - from the opening ceremonies to the closing ceremonies, I am hooked. One of the greatest experiences of my life was to be a volunteer (locally we were called Smurfs) at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic games. It was an exciting, thrilling and magical time in Vancouver and in all of Canada. Following the carrying of the "torch" across our great nation had me in tears every night - and to see it arrive in downtown Vancouver one dark, chilly morning with my daughter and 2 grandsons, was extremely emotional. This year we will be in Hawaii for the first week of the Olympics and I hope we get quality Canadian coverage so we can stand proud with the rest of Canada. I just watched the news conference announcing the men's Team Canada Hockey team - GO CANADA GO! Thank you Kitchen Counter Chronicles for having this wonderful give away. xoxo

I too get emotional during the opening ceremony and medal events - I think it is a mixture of the hopes, aspiration and hard work that these athletes have contributed over many years to achieve their goals. I can only imagine how much they have sacrificed to get where they are today.

I have a special fondness for curling even though it takes quite a long time for each round. Being able to take my son Simon 4 years ago to a session and the crowd erupting into "O Canada" was amazing and electrifying. And like Pat, being right in the middle of it here in Vancouver 2010 was a once in a lifetime experience. Freestyle skiing is pretty great too and was especially cool that Canada got its first Gold medal on home soil thanks to Alex Bilodeau.
