Yes, I shared a collection of Earth Day books for preschoolers and Earth Day board books...but this one is all about the older kids. Earth Day chapter books are gonna be fun!

I've pulled together a collection of fiction and nonfiction books that explore climate change, the 3Rs and other environmental concepts in ways that are engaging for kids of all ages. I'm sure you will find a great Earth Day book for your students or kids on this list.

Old Enough to Save the Planet by Loll Kirby - I love this book! So often adults underestimate the ability of kids to understand complicated issues. This book turns that idea upside down. Read the stories of kids who are tackling environmental issues in their communities. They saw a problem and came up with solutions! Totally inspiring.
We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom - There is power in looking at environmental issues from different perspectives. We Are Water Protectors is a beautifully illustrated, poet book written from an Indigenous author and illustrator's perspective. Protecting our water from pollution is important to all of us and is an essential role of the Water Protectors.
One Earth by Eileen Spinelli - One Earth is a super simple book that counts the many reasons why we should protect our planet. And, also counts the ways that children and families can help save our planet. Lovely illustrations and simple text make this a great book to spark classroom discussions.
Can I Recycle This? by Jenny Romer - Okay, not only does every kid need to read this book, every household needs a copy. The author takes readers through all kinds of different everyday items and discusses whether they are recyclable or not. Keep in mind every city's recycling program differs, but this book gives a great overview and lots of alternatives to single-use plastics.
Thea Stilton and the Rainforest Rescue by Thea Stilton - I had to include a few fictional favorites in the list. My kids love Thea Stilton and all of her adventures. This book finds Thea and her friends traveling to Malaysia and trying to stop the deforestation of the rainforest. But, will they be able to stop the cutting and save the animals?
Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew Earth Day Escapade - Celebrate Earth Day with Nancy Drew and her schoolmates. As they prepare their eco-friendly float for the school parade it seems like someone is trying to sabotage the parade!? Will they solve the mystery in time for Earth Day?

Who Was Rachel Carson by Sarah Fabiny - I really enjoy this series of biographies. In this book, readers learn about one of the founders of the environmental movement, Rachel Carson. Learn how did her life shape her work and why was her book, Silent Spring, so revolutionary.
Heroes of the Environment by Harriet Rohmer - Follow the story of 12 everyday people who have made a positive environmental impact. From teenagers to grandparents, these folks saw a problem and came up with creative solutions that will inspire readers to tackle the issues they see where they live.
Our Planet! There's No Place Like Earth by Stacy McAnulty - Our planet is home to billions of people and creatures. It's a remarkable place. But, our climate is heating up and we need to figure out how to keep Earth happy and healthy. How can we help?
Saving Earth: Climate Change and the Fight for Our Future by Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich - This one is best for the bigger kids. The author holds no punches and discusses how we have found ourselves in the climate change crisis we are in. This book is about facing the things we've done and finding the passion to change for the future. It's a very inspiring read.
