Green Living – green those gifts

Does anyone actually buy their father a tie anymore? I mean I suppose that if your father loves ties, it is probably the perfect gift…but let’s move beyond the tie. Why not look into purchasing something green for dad this year?! Here are a few options.
iTunes gift cards

Let dad select his own music – the gift of music is always a great choice – and absolutely no packaging if you purchase your gift card online.
Greener choice

This line of cleaning products has an excellent line of automotive cleaners – if your dad loves his wheels, these cleaners will make them shine – without phosphates, no toxins and it’s biodegradable.

Recycled beer bottles

I love these glasses, they have on display at the last few One of a Kind Shows in Toronto…everytime I see them I think I should pick them up…father’s day is the perfect time – Artech Studios’ recycled beer bottle glasses.
A good read

Murder, mystery, cops, gangsters and non-stop action – Tomas Perry’s “The Informant” – how is this gift green? Read it and pass it along…reduce, reuse, recycle.
Brewery Tours

A fun and informative outing for any dad…give the gift of a brewery tour – like Steam Whistle‘s, where you can learn about a Toronto landmark and beer! Mill Street Brewery, located in Toronto’s Distillery District, also offers brewery tours. Always great to learn about locally produced products, especially beer.
Organization

This is an amazing… car trunk organizer – with a built in cooler – storage for your reusable shopping bags and your refillable water bottles.
Bike Accessories

Make sure dad is riding his bike safely – check out Mountain Equipment Co-op’s selection of bike accessories – anything from mirrors and bells to reflectors…safety first.

Mini-putting

Kids love mini-putt and dad’s love golf – sounds like a perfect outing and a very green gift to me!
Whatever you decide to buy for your father, or husband, be sure to check and see if there is a greener alternative. Even the standard tie can be found made from organic cotton. Consider wrapping the gift in you children’s artwork, one of the thousands of pieces you have. Greening Father’s day is easier than you might think.
