How cute is this super easy to make Christmas tree cheese platter?! We've made and shared many fun Christmas fruit and veggie trays over the years. Last year, I made a fun veggie Christmas tree platter and this year I wanted to make yet another Christmas tree-themed platter. After all, the Christmas tree is a major icon of the holiday season.
The idea all began when I found this delightful Christmas tree-shaped wooden charcuterie board (this is a similar Christmas tree-shaped charcuterie board). I knew that I would be able to put this board to use in many ways and for many years to come. But, first up was adding a big pile of cheese!
Christmas Tree Cheese Platter
1 cup Colby Jack cheese, cubed
1 cup Gouda cheese, cubed
½ cup cherry tomatoes
Fresh rosemary sprigs for garnish
Christmas tree charcuterie board
The first step is to prepare all the cheese. You could use whatever cheeses you like. I opted for Colby jack and gouda cheeses. But, I'm sure this would be lovely with any hard cheese...like marble cheese, aged cheddar, or smoked gouda. Whichever cheeses you choose you will want to cut the cheeses into small, bite-sized cubes. This looks best if you keep all the cubes about the same size.
Next up, you will want to wash the cherry tomatoes and the rosemary. Dry the tomatoes and rosemary in a clean kitchen towel. Everything is cleaned prepped and ready to assemble.
Start at the top of your large Christmas tree-shaped platter, with a layer of Gouda cheese cubes.
Next, follow with a single layer of cherry tomatoes directly beneath the Gouda cheese.
Now, add a layer of the Colby jack cheese cubes, working down the tree shape. You will see why it was important to have different colored cheeses, this really highlights the different rows of cheese.
Now, it's time to place a garland of fresh rosemary sprigs beneath the Colby Jack. This adds a fir tree-style garland. Really bringing the Christmas tree to life.
Once you have this pattern down, repeat the pattern all the way down the board by adding another layer of Gouda cheese, followed by another layer of cherry tomatoes, and then a layer of Colby Jack. The size of your charcuterie board will determine the number of rows of cheese, etc that you will need.
Be sure to finish the tree by placing a row of fresh rosemary sprigs at the bottom, completing the festive look with that final touch of greenery.
I love the pop of Christmas red that the cherry tomatoes bring to the tree. Now, if you don't have a Christmas tree-shaped charcuterie board, don't worry. You could make the same Christmas tree pattern and shape on a large rectangular board. The key is that you need a rectangular board, so you can achieve the tree height and shape.
What do you think? Wouldn't this make a beautiful addition to a holiday party? It is so simple to make. The cheese can be swapped easily. It's just important to use sprigs of rosemary and those red cherry tomatoes. Next time I might add a yellow pepper start to the top!
