Beat the mid-afternoon snack craving

By Jen

Nature Valley Granola Thins and homemade iced tea

It has been so hot the last few days. However, I made a promise to myself years ago, that I would never complain about the heat in the summer. I only need to remember those freezing cold days in the winter and I feel a whole lot cooler. Instead we've been keeping the play around here pretty low key. The girls and I are spending a lot of time playing in the shade, with water.

One thing that I notice when the temperature rises is how it impacts our eating habits. The kids tend to snack on a lot of fruit and veggies throughout the day. It is also really important to keep them hydrated, otherwise they get so tired and cranky. I gotta say, I can totally relate. This hot weather turns me into a snacker too. I am especially effected by my mid afternoon cravings.

This week I had the yummy opportunity to try out some new snacks from Fibre 1 and Nature Valley. First, let me say that I am a HUGE Fibre 1 fan. In fact, I have been eating a bowl of Fibre 1 cereal for breakfast every morning for the last 3 years. It was recommended to me by the doctor who preformed my colonoscopy...is that too much information? Anyway, suffice it to say I was happy to try these fibre filled treats. Not surprising, they were quite delicious. Anytime you combine chocolate, caramel and pretzel in one food, I am happy!

To help beat the crazy heat I popped the Nature Valley Granola Thins, that are coated in chocolate, into the freezer.

When I pulled them out a little while later they were cool, crisp and refreshing. The perfect accompaniment to my tall, icy glass of homemade iced tea. My 2 o'clock craving was filled!
