Kitchen Counter Confidential - Kickbox update

Well, we are approaching the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I wanted to take the time to let you know about my night at Kickbox for the Cure. About one month ago, my sister and I got all gussied up in our fancy clothes (of course I didn't get ONE pic of me dressed up...no proof!) and taxied our way to the Royal York. This swanky hotel was the location for the first annual Kickbox for the Cure. My friend Aynsley was one of the organizers and the woman standing in the pink, squared ring for the big event.

Let me start by saying the evening was fabulous. The silent auction items and the live auction items were stellar. I mean, a trip to London, England (not Ontario), a chance to drive a Porsche on a real race track and a full body workup at a medical lab...every test under the sun!
the awesome auctioneer "Going once..."
Beyond those gems there was the food! You know it's a great party when the bar is lined with pink cocktails. I have seen a sushi bar before...but never a poutine bar! And yes, my sister and I also spent some time chilling by the dessert table...tables. Delish.
so fancy...being served poutine
Now, let's face it, we were there to see the fight. Aynsley did not disappoint as she entered the ring, escorted by some handsome men. The fight looked exhausting...and in the end she won!

All in all the night was a huge success. As I looked around the room I saw lots of conversations and lots of smiling faces. People genuinely enjoyed themselves and were supporting an amazing cause at the same time. The numbers are still being added up, but it looks like the ladies raised around $70,000. Incredibly impressive!
I was curious to see how Aynsley is doing post-Kickbox for the Cure.
After such an incredible evening, how does your kitchen counter look these days?
My kitchen counter is just as pink as it was a month ago despite Kickbox for the Cure being over for this year. It is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and well, I do have a 4 year old daughter whose whole world is pink!
Was Kickbox for the Cure everything you had hoped it would be?
I am still in awe of that evening. The event was a huge success and the amount of support and love in that room was simply amazing! I can't wait to do it again.
Poutine or sushi? Which one do you prefer?
That is such a hard one! Two of my fave foods. Who am I kidding, I love all food! I actually didn't get to try either because I was running around all evening and by the time my fight was over...the food was gone. GASP! Next year I want a poutine station in my room.
Do you have the place booked for next year?
Next year?!? All I can say is that if you enjoyed the event this year than we've got a full year to plan the next one, so WATCH OUT!
Thanks again Aynsley. Personally, I think everyone needs a poutine station in their room...sign me up! All in all a wonderful night and a date to look forward to next year.

Have a great weekend everyone...hope the sun is shining wherever you are!

Kitchen Counter Confidential - Kickbox for the Cure

Every fundraising event has a story behind it. Way back in the beginning someone had an idea, an inspiration. I am proud of my friend Aynsley who had an idea, worked with a small team of people, landed some incredible partners and this September will see her dream come to life. Aynsley is a mom of 3 children who is always on the move. Aynsley is helping plan, and participating in, Toronto's newest and most exciting breast cancer fundraiser - Kickbox for the Cure. Take a look into her kitchen today and find out how she is helping "kick cancer to the curb".
Tell me 3 things about yourself
I have a small collection of old marine clocks ( weird I know). I really like anything that's super fast, which is why I have a Yamaha R6 motorcycle despite having 3 kids. And, I am a terrible gardener which my neighbors will gladly admit!
Are you for, or against, small appliances on the kitchen counter?
I love small appliances on the kitchen counter! I dream of having an uber modern kitchen with nothing but a coffee maker on the countertop, but I don't think that'll happen till the kids are a bit older!
Name 5 things that are on your kitchen counter right now
My favorite gift ever! My bright orange kitchen aid mixer, my coffee maker because I don't sleep enough!! Rasin toast, because when you train as much as I do carbs are sacred! IKEA's dish brush, because they are amazing and .99 cents. And, my Ryobi Drill because I bought a fixer upper and well it's slowly getting fixed.....and every girl needs a drill, it's 2011!
What one thing would you change about your kitchen counter
I would make it bigger! One spot for the amazing amounts of paper the school sends home, another for my laptop and scattered self employed-ness, another for actually preparing food, and finally a spot that remains clean at all times so that everything doesn't end up sticky!
What is your favourite thing to do on your kitchen counter?
I have an island in the kitchen, which is fantastic for family dance parties! Sometimes when everyone is cranky a good ole dance party cures everything!
What, or who, was the inspiration behind Kickbox for the Cure?

Catherine was the inspiration for Kickbox for the Cure! She is just amazing!!!! She was a friend and a student who found out she has stage 4 breast cancer a few weeks before Christmas. I wracked my brain for a way we could support her and let her know just how many people love her and are in her corner in this fight against breast cancer. I thought a kick-a-thon would be a great way to "kick the crap outta cancer" and help Catherine fight in style, with the love and support of her friends in a totally non traditional yet super fun way! We dressed in Pink, we acted foolish and danced on pink yoga mats and we told cancer "F#$K YOU", we are winning this one!

What will be happening at Kickbox for the Cure?
Kickbox for the Cure is going to be an amazing event at the Royal York Hotel on September 30th! Presented by CI Financial and GMP Capital Inc in partnership with Rethink Breast Cancer, this event is going to be the most spectacular breast cancer fundraiser to date! I will be fighting that evening for 3 rounds in a fantastically PINK Boxing Ring. There will be a fashion show from Titika Activewear, a silent auction for some ridiculously pink prizes and sooooo much more! Ballgowns and boxing! What could be better?
Where can we buy tickets?
Tickets are on sale now at www.kickboxforthecure.com!
Thanks Aynsley! So, now you know the story behind this amazing fundraiser...Aynsley is a force. Please follow the link to Kickbox for the Cure, even if you cannot attend the event, you can still make a donation. While you are at it, take a look at Aynsley's day job - her privately owned fitness and martial arts studio in the Beach....DNA Fitness. If you are thinking about getting in shape in a fun, energetic and beautiful environment, DNA Fitness is the place. I stopped by this past spring to find out more about the PINK! classes...it was amazing.
Have a great weekend everyone!
