Kitchen Counter Confidential - Mama Smiles

By Jen

Is there anything better than seeing a mama smile? When a child smiles it warms your heart...but sometimes those smiles come so easily. When a mama smiles, they really mean it. A mama smile is filled with pride, joy and love. This is what I think every time I head over to Mamasmiles.com. Today we are taking a look inside Mama Smiles' kitchen to see how busy her kitchen counter is with 3 kids and one more on the way!

Tell me 3 things about yourself

- I have three, soon-to-be-four kids who make me laugh every single day! DH is also highly entertaining 🙂
- One thing I love about being a mom is that I have an excuse to play with toys every day.
- I was raised in five different countries (the United States until age 7, followed by Guatemala, France, Bolivia and Austria). Then back to the US for college, off to the UK for grad school (DD #1 was born in Scotland) and settled in the US - for now, at least.
Are you for, or against small appliances on the kitchen counter?

For a couple - a toaster and blender, in our house. Unfortunately, I have way more than JUST small appliances  on my kitchen counter right now!
Name 5 things that are on your kitchen counter right now
Animal crackers, one glass, fruit bowl, spice rack and soap dispenser.
What, if anything, would you change about your kitchen counter?
I would LOVE more counter space! This is the largest kitchen I've ever had, but you have to take into consideration that I once had a one-person kitchen - literally room for one person to stand (and twirl in place).
What is your favourite thing to do on your kitchen counter?
Cook with my kids!
Small Hands Creating Hope, can you tell us a little about this project and why it is so special to you
I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 22 months old, and - while it definitely disrupted my childhood - my story has a very happy ending. This year I celebrate 30 years of cancer survivorship, and I wanted to do something to promote cancer awareness and raise funds for further research so that, in the future, more cancer stories will be like mine.
I have always found creativity to be very therapeutic, and together with a group of over forty talented bloggers - I put together book full of crafts that children as well as adults can make to inspire hope in the face of a challenge like cancer. The crafts are wide ranging and incredible - many very simple, while others require a certain level of skill. All use easy-to-aquire craft materials. We are sending a link for the ebook out to anyone who donates at least $15 to the American Cancer Society, an organization that is funding a lot of groundbreaking cancer research (including some research that led to my recovery) while raising awareness and providing support to cancer patients and families. A link to purchase a physical copy of the book will be sent in the same email (any proceeds for the physical copy go directly to our publisher, Amazon/Createspace).

How can people support Small Hands Creating Hope?

We are hosting a Small Hands Creating hope Twitter Party at 3pm US Eastern Time on Tuesday, June 12th, and would love to see you there - party participants have an opportunity to win a copy of the book!

Doesn't that bring a smile to your face? Here's an example of some of the projects you will find inside the Small Hands Creating Hope book...

I am so honoured to be taking part in this project. I will be sharing the activity we contributed to the book next Tuesday, June 12th. I truly believe that there is a cure for cancer out there somewhere...it is only a matter of time and money! So, please donate to this incredible cause and enjoy your lovely book! Thanks Mama Smiles for stopping by today!

Thank you so much for having me at your blog! I LOVE the way the Small Hands Creating Hope book turned out, and am excited to see it raising money to help with cancer research! I believe we can eventually find a cure for all cancers - we are, after all, partway there already!
