Kitchen Counter Confidential - Diva Edition

I hope that all my American friends had a great day yesterday and are enjoying a restful day off today...or a fun day shopping. Today we are going to venture into the kitchen of a wonderful woman I met in the online world. Bern has 2 beautiful children and shares all the fun ways they learn and play on her blog Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas. To me this is the best thing about blogs, you get to find out the tips and tricks that other mom's are using...all around the world. So, today we head to Florida to peek into Bern's kitchen and see how they spent Thanksgiving in their home.

Tell me 3 things about yourself -

What to share? What to share? I'll begin by saying that I was born and raised in NY. I moved to sunny FL in 2000 and have never looked back. Although I miss my family dearly, it was the best decision I could have made.  That one decision has led me to where I am today and I wouldn't change my life for anything.

Secondly, I am a teacher by profession and while I have always loved it these past few years at home with my girls have spoiled me. My greatest dream come true would be to be able to stay home with them until they were older. I love being able to help in their classrooms, to be part of their schools and I will miss all that when I go back to work next year. I know I simply will not have the same amount of time I do now with them and it makes me so sad.
Finally, I never would have thought that I'd be a "blogger". I am shy by nature but it's been so easy to share myself this way. Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas has become my other baby. My girls are at a wonderful age where we have lots of fun creating and learning while playing daily.

Are you for, or against, small appliances on the kitchen counter?
Honestly, it doesn't bother me either way. My counters are always pretty cluttered because we don't have much storage space. I should do a little rearranging and throwing things away that we don't use but for now - there everything sits.

Name 5 things that are on your counter right now.

Today is actually Thanksgiving so there's lots on my counters right now. 1. Carrot Cake Cupcakes 2. Brownies 3. Cookies & Reeses Cups - to make pilgrim hats 4. Roast Pork 5. Unfinished Dream Catchers (on another counter in the kitchen)

There is definitely some yummy clutter here today!

What, if anything, would you change about your kitchen counter?
This is easy - I need more space or at least better organization.

What is your favourite thing to do on your kitchen counter?
Hands down it would be baking/cooking with the Lil Divas. We have lots of fun creating special snacks (and of course big messes!). Both girls love helping in the kitchen and it's something that we can easily do together and then share what we make with others.

American Thanksgiving is upon us...how do you celebrate? Macy's Thanksgiving Parade? Turkey?
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. In my family it means lots of food, family and fun. Today we started our day with turkey shaped pancakes followed watching by the Thanksgiving Day Parade on television. I baked carrot cake cupcakes and brownies for our big family dinner. Later we will head over with everything to my mother's house. She is hosting Thanksgiving dinner (turkey, ham, roast pork, rice, sweet potatoes, shrimp potato salad and more!) for us, my brother and his family, my in-laws and my brother and sister in law. There will be 14 of us gathering together and celebrating Thanksgiving this year.

I think that every parent tries to teach their children to be thankful. How do you teach your daughter's to be thankful at this time of year?

With the holidays fast approaching - we get so much of the "I wants". This is the hardest time of year to battle those thoughts as children are filled with thoughts of christmas lists and wishes. It is important to me that I take some time to remind my girls of how very fortunate they are. We always donate non-perishable items to their schools food drive for Thanksgiving and talk about how there are people (including children) who do not have all this food to eat.  I also spend time in early December with the Lil Divas filling a shoe box full of gift items for a boy or girl in need who will otherwise not be receiving Christmas presents. This is an important lesson in giving and charity that can be performed by children for other children. It is wonderful to see them picking items they would enjoy for another child and then putting it all together.

Thank you for having me over today,

Bern

Thanks Bern for inviting us into your kitchen, and on such a busy day. I love knowing I'm not the only person out there with my life all over my kitchen counter! Phew! I think we might have to investigate the shoe box of gifts for others this year...just lovely.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Vicky - yay for NY! 🙂 I miss the seasons and my family but love raising my girls here in FL.

OneMommy - we will be working on this years shoe box soon - the girls have already thinking of things to add. It's very sweet that they remembered and are looking forward to it this year. Makes my heart happy!

Thanks for visiting with me here ladies - isn't this a lovely peek into the lives & kitchens of fellow bloggers!
