It is the final week of the Go Green Challenge from the folks at Toronto’s Green Living Show. All month long I have be trying out awesome products and services that help families lead greener lives. I have enjoyed sharing my experiences and the products and services with you. Be sure to read through to our final awesome eco-friendly giveaway.
It's time for one of my true confessions. I'm 40 years old and I know nothing about skin care products. I rarely wear make up, my skin doesn't "break out" and I don't have a daily skin care routing (I am now cowering in the corner). Ask my sister, she'll tell you - I've never been that concerned about skin care. I know that some women have a whole entire routine, they have lotions for particular days of the week and creams, tonics, etc (at least that's what I tell myself). I, on the other hand, stick to the basics. So, when the folks at Skin Essence Organics asked me to try out their line of skin care I was both excited and scared. Could I change my ways? Why did women use all these lotions and potions to begin with? Turns out Skin Essence Organics products are simple to use, there aren't an endless number of steps and I can feel good using them.
The Beauty of Organic Skin Care Products
Apparently, I am not the only one who knows very little about skin care products. Most consumers know very little about the products they use. I mean have you ever looked at the ingredient list on skin care products? The ingredient lists are long and don't seem to be written in english or french. They are written in scientific terms that mean very little to the average consumer. When my Skin Essence Organics products arrived I immediately looked at the ingredient list. The ingredient list wasn't terribly long and everything on the list was plant based. I recognized the ingredients. When I went to the website to do a little more research, I discovered a Skin Essence Organics' "key ingredient" slide show. I was able to flip through and learn more about the ingredients - a photo of the plant and why they are used in a particular product. I appreciate an ingredient list I can understand. The organically grown, plant based formula truly appeals to me as a eco-minded consumer.
Why is it important to use organically grown products on your skin? The same reason we shop for organic produce and other edibles. What we put on our skin is absorbed and enters our blood stream, impacting on our organs. The toxic preservitives and chemicals in traditional skin care products has an ongoing and long term impact on our health. Skin Essence products contain no GMO's, no artificial colours, fragrances, no fillers, no petro-chemicals, no sodium lauryl sulfate and no parabens. The products are 100% natural-organic, the ingredients are sourced through fair trade practices and are packaged in eco-friendly containers. Organic products respect not only the consumer, but the growers and the environment as well.
After checking out the ingredients in the products and learning more about their business philosophy, it was time to give it a try. I was trying the Skin Essence line for sensitive skin...not really knowing which line to choose, I figured this was my safest bet. I washed my face with Pure Facial Cleanser and finished with Soothe Facial Moisturizer. I have to say that I was impressed. I appreciated the lightness of the products...it didn't feel like I had just washed and moisturized my face. There was no oily residue...just clean. For a newbie, this was awesome. It seems like it is time for me to start treating my skin better and to embrace a new skin care routine. One that is in line with my eco-conscious lifestyle and one that makes my skin feel great.
There are plenty of other products from Skin Essence Organics - for all skin types. They also carry products for consumers who suffer from acne, rosacea and eczema. Their products can be purchased online (internationally) or, in a variety of locations across Canada.

I did skin care and product research many years ago because of working in the jungle and sailing on the open ocean and in nature reserves. In the UK I found Lush products there are no nasties in them and they are freshly made. I took them travelling around the world and now it's something that both me and T use at home regularly.
