Phew! This weekend was spent celebrating birthday milestones, skating, swimming, baking, crafting, cooking, hanging out with family and eating. What a weekend. Before the festivities began we tackled the adornment for our front door. Every February the girls and I work on a Valentine's door hanging. This year we made a string of hearts. A simple and charming addition to any front door.
The supplies:
- construction paper (colour of kids choice)
- utility knife
- ribbon (approximately 4ft long)
- scissors
- tape or 2 magnets
The steps:
1. Using the heart templates made in our previous post (hearts on a scarf), have the kids trace large and small hearts onto the construction paper...about 24 hearts.
2. Cut the hearts out of the construction paper
3. Using the utility knife or a straight blade, cut two small slits in the middle-top portion of the heart...about 2cm long and 1cm apart.
4. Once all the hearts are cut out, begin feeding the ribbon through the slits in the hearts...creating whatever pattern of colour and sizes that your kids like.
5. When the hearts are all on the ribbon, attach the ribbon to your door in a swag...we attached it with pieces of tape, however you could easily use magnet on a metal door.
You could hang this garland in a window or on an inside door. This is the perfect alternative to a traditional wreath, and the kids can truly participate in every step. Enjoy.
