You know we love Christmas games that are cheap and cheerful. And, this Roll an Elf game is just that - it's a free printable Christmas game to play with kids of all ages. We've shared a fun Roll a Santa game and Roll A Reindeer game, but this time it's all about those ever-helpful little Christmas elves. Be sure to check out all of our free printable games for kids.

This game is so simple, it can be played by kids of all ages and adults too. It would make a fun stocking stuffer or advent calendar activity for kids. Bring it out as a fun Christmas party game for the kids – at home or in the classroom. The Elf face pieces could be laminated and then they would last for years, in a classroom.

How to Play Roll An Elf Game

Okay, first we need to print off our Roll an Elf game sheets - 3 pages in total. I prefer printing our game sheets on cardstock as it means the pieces will be a little more sturdy, especially once they are cut out. But you could totally use the regular printer paper that you have on hand. Once you have the pages printed, use the scissors to cut out all of the elf pieces. You can do this ahead of time or make it part of the game – each player has to cut out their Elf pieces.

The pieces include two sets of eyes, two little noses, two smiles, two Elf hats, two sets of pointy Elf ears, two heads of Elf hair, and two Elf coat collars. Once you have everything cut out, it is time to play the game.

The players will take turns rolling the single die. After they roll a number, they will refer to the chart to determine which part of the Elf can be placed on the head. For instance, if the player rolls a 3 they can add a smile to their Elf face. Then it is the other player's turn to roll and add a piece to their Elf. The game will go back and forth until one player has finished rolling a complete Elf.

Sometimes a player will roll a number they have rolled before, this is all part of the game and they must pass the die to the other player. They don't roll again if they repeat a number. That's all part of the game.

Once the Elves are complete the kids can give a name to their Elf and even use some glue to stick all the pieces in place. Or, slide everything off and play again and again. The number of players playing is determined by how many copies of the game you print off. Ideally, this game is great for 2-4 players.

At the end of the game, it is up to you to decide what the winner will receive. Maybe the glory of winning is enough? Or, maybe the winner gets an extra scoop of ice cream when it's time for dessert. A candy cane always makes a great prize during the holiday season!
