Gift giving: take me out to a movie

By Jen

Ah, I remember the days when I would go out to see a movie every week. When the Oscars came along, I used to know every nominated movie. Where did those days go?
When we first had our kids we were lucky if we could string together 30 minutes of free time. Going to a movie seemed totally unattainable. All that changed a few years ago when someone gave my husband and I a movie gift card for Christmas. With the gift card as motivation, we actually went out to see a movie! Ever since then I am have become a HUGE fan of movie gift cards as a gift for new moms and dads, old moms and dads...any kind of mom and dad.
I was recently introduced to an amazing gift card program at Empire Theatres. Imagine the movie gift card you purchase for someone else comes with a reward for you...the purchaser. That is what Empire Theatres is offering to you this holiday season. When you buy $30 worth of gift cards you receive a $30 coupon bundle (if you buy $60, you receive 2 coupon bundles). The coupon bundles include some pretty amazing discounts, like...
* buy one regular priced admission, get one free (Jan 1-31, 2012)
* admission ticket, regular soft drink and small popcorn only $9.99 (Feb 1-29, 2012)
* $4.00 off general admission (April 1-31, 2012)
Those are just a few examples of what is included in the coupon bundle! So, that means that you can give your friends the gift cards and either keep those coupons for yourself...or gift them to someone else. If you are like me, always looking for unique and reusable ways to wrap your gifts, check out the mini-film reel tin you can purchase for $1.00 - the net proceeds go to support the Kids Help Phone.
We know a lot of families and sometimes the cost of taking the entire family to the theatre can be prohibitive...they would be the perfect recipients for these gift cards. The added bonus of a gift card is that you aren't just giving a "thing" you are giving an experience to someone. As I look down my holiday shopping list I can think of many of my friends and families who would love to receive these cards and coupons this Christmas! Who would you give movie gift cards to??
PS - the holiday gift card bundles are available now thru December 24th (or while quantities last) and can be purchased in the theatre or online.
I am participating in the Empire Theatre Gift Card Holiday Campaign by Mom Central Canada.
 I received compensation for my participation in this campaign. The opinions on this blog are my own.

    Great idea! I think I've made it to the movies twice since Baby Bear came along! I'll definitely be using this for other moms I know!

    We got some gift certificates for movies recently, awesome. they are useable, fun, you can take the whole family, and there is no forgotten toy at the end of it. Also find same with LCBO gc's - for the grown ups of course....and it's a nice add on. Kate
