We are always looking for ways to reinvent things. Halloween seems like a great time to dig into the trash/recycling bin and get crafting! It is possible to "green" Halloween.
Last week I showed you my fun ghost garland. I made this garland way back in 2002! That thing is o-l-d! It is easy to make, easy to store and is quite durable. Here is how I made it.
You will need
old rags or old drop cloth...the dirtier the better
cotton batting or newspaper
waxed thread (used for beading) OR fishing line OR twine
1. cut rag into 12" square
2. place golf ball sized puff of cotton OR newspaper in centre of square

3. fold rag around cotton
4. use a single knot to tie the ghost closed at the "neck"
5. connect the first ghost to the next by simply tying it on 12" along the thread

6. once your garland is complete, just drape it and hang it up
Now that we've used up some old rags, we can reach in the recycling bin and make some monsters! The girls loved this craft.
You will need

yogurt containers (empty and clean)

pipe cleaners
googly eyes
markers
white glue OR glue stick OR glue gun (we used a glue gun)
white glue OR glue stick OR glue gun (we used a glue gun)
construction paper
feathers
1. let the kids have at it! Done!

It always amazes me how excited my girls get doing the most basic things. They were actually searching through the recycling bin looking for things to turn into monsters. We'll pack these up after Halloween and next year I'll pull them out and see what the girls can add to them...make them bigger and scarier!?
On a completely different note...Happy Diwali to those of you who might be celebrating today! Hope your day and night are filled with light!

Cute monsters! We made similar ones with empty tissue boxes at school this year with 1st grade. They LOVED making them! And your ghosts are super! Great way to decorate 'green' - will try to remember to make some of those for next year's Trunk or Treat!
