What do you LOVE about being a parent?

By Jen

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone! Today I am celebrating the love I have for my little family. I love my family. Let me assure you, things are not always sunshine and roses. There have been many challenging moments on this road. However, on the whole being a parent has been the most incredible journey. So, I am taking advantage of Valentine's Day...one more day to celebrate love. Since becoming a parent, over 9 years ago, I have loved the roller coaster ride that is parenting. What I have loved the most is exploring with my girls. I am continually amazed at how much children love to explore and learn about everything. Exploring the world with my girls and through their eyes, is such a tremendous gift.

I had a feeling that I wasn't the only woman out there who loves being a parent...so, I put the question to a fabulous group of kid-bloggers that I know. Today I have gathered together their loving, touching and funny thoughts about love and parenting.

"I get a lifetime of fascniation and entertainment from three kids with very different personalities. I could sit and talk with them for hours (and often do)!"  The Usual Mayhem

"Seeing the world through new eyes - what is dull, ordinary, a pain becomes magical, wondrous a new experience every time, it makes all of the hard stuff worth while"  Rainy Day Mum

"My first instinct would be to say something like "The hugs and I love you's"  Glittering Muffins

"I love that I get to share the wonder of this world with my two gorgeous girls and their friends. I made them, but in turn they, unknowingly, made me too."  Mummyology

"I love that swell of joy that I can feel in my chest when they place their tiny arms around me and whisper an adorable kid question in my ear. It is such and honour to be a mother."  How To Run A Home Daycare

"Having an excuse to be downright silly. Seeing the world through their eyes. Being loved unconditionally. And, watching them grow and learn."  B-Inspired Mama

"That feeling you get inside when your toddler comes running with excitement yelling, "Mommy, mommy" and looking up at you with their arms wide open. It's a feeling of mutual love and delight."  Inspired By Family

"Having the power to provide instant comfort to a crying tot. Kind of feels like a superpower some days!"  Here Come the Girls

"As a mother, I get so much pleasure from making my son's face light up with delight. One of the sweetest sounds to hear around the house is the giggling of a 2 year old, which is usually followed by the laughter of two adults that think he is the cutest toddler that ever walked the Earth."  Connecting Family and Seoul

"Seeing them grow and evolve from this tiny little thing to boys with personalities and opinions! (Maybe I'm less enthusiastic for the opinions!)"  Making Boys Men

"As a mom of two toddlers I get to experience the perfect blend of self discovery and finding their independence, while still needing tons of hugs and kisses."  Cute and Peculiar

"I will keep it simple: I love that I hear laughter (AKA the sound of love) in my house everyday." - The Good Long Road

"I love teaching my child. The look that they get in their eyes when they learn something new is priceless."  True Aim Parenting & Education

"I have never learned (and been driven to learn) so much more, nor have I ever noticed so much in life. I feel as though my eyes opened ten times wider to the world after having children."  Carrots Are Orange

"I love the magic that children bring back to life. Experiencing things for "the first time". That innocent wonder. I also love how kids are constantly smiling and laughing at things."  Red Ted Art

"Never a shortage of love in the house...I love saying "I love you!" and hearing it numerous times a day...I love the hugs and kisses and cuddles, that my kids are always more than happy to share. You realize what is important in life when you become a parent, and I think our kids really help us to see that. When you are a parent you can fully understand the what it means to love." - Sun Scholars

"I love getting to hear my son's take on things he sees in the world and what he is learning. I learn from the things he says."  JDaniel 4's Mom

"I love experiencing new things with my children for the first time. I love reading to them, cuddling and surprising them. Now, I understand why grandparents love these things so much too!"  Busy Kids = Happy Mom

"I love that being a parent is the most important and fulfilling thing I've ever done. I'm continually amazed at the eternal heart-to-heart bonding with my children. This quote by Elizabeth Stone describes how I've felt about my children at every age, even though they’re adults now: “Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." Living Montessori Now & Raising Figure Skaters

"I love being a parent cause not only do I get to see my kids grow and learn from me, but I see them teaching me at times the little things we tend to forget in life. Also, the endless love they give daily." Momma's Fun World

"I love being a parent to my 6 year old as I get to experience the joy of being a child all over again. Their happiness over small things, their unadulterated love is such an eye opener .. and of course for all the numerous hugs n' kisses." Artsy Craftsy Mom

One more thing I love about being a parent...community. In life we each wander around looking for people to connect with, people who we can share time and experiences with. Being a parent has introduced me to a whole new community of wonderful women and men. People who help to expand my understanding of life.
Now it's your turn...what do you love about being a parent? I would love to know how you feel about this incredible role we get to play.

I deliberately didn't read any other responses until your post went live this morning., What a great way to kick of Valentine's Day, reading all those things that other parents love! Thanks for sharing!

I love it! Yes, I was greeted this morning by sweet little voices whispering, "Happy V-day." Then we snuggled and hugged for awhile, we got out the door late as a result but it was so worth it.
