By Jen

International Women's Day falls on every March 8th. We have been finding ways to celebrate IWD with our kids for many years now. To me, this day is all about acknowledging the amazing women in our lives, in our communities and in the world. I've created many International Women's Day activities over the years.

I grew up with many strong women surrounding me. I love sharing their stories with my kids. But, what I really enjoy is learning about the amazing things women have done throughout history. There are so many incredible stories out there. This is why I take the time to celebrate International Women's Day every single year.

This year, I set out to make a simple International Women's Day worksheet for kids, that could be used at home or in a classroom. It is an interactive worksheet that kids can use to explore art, and language and celebrate women they find inspiring.

There are many ways to use this International Women's Day Worksheet for kids. It could be used at home or in the classroom. I've shared an extensive booklist of great books for kids that feature the stories of remarkable women. This book list is a great place to start. Read a few books and your kids or students will be introduced to many inspiring women - real and fictional.

Next up, discuss the real women in your student or child's life. Who are the women they interact with on a daily basis? Grandmothers, teachers, coaches, librarians, instructors, grocery store clerks, sisters, aunts, mothers...the list is endless.

Now that you have the ball rolling, print off and hand out our IWD activity sheet to each student or child.

This sheet is all about highlighting a woman who inspires your child or student. Who do they admire?

There is a space for the student to write the woman's name and to draw a picture. Perhaps they could draw a portrait of the woman or a picture of the woman doing something. It could even be a drawing of what the woman does. For instance, if the woman is a basketball coach maybe draw a basketball game or a basketball. The picture can be as simple or detailed as your student can manage.

Finally, there is a section where your student or child can write about why they chose this woman. How does she inspire the student? Why does your student admire this woman?

Once the worksheet has been completed it's time to hang it up on the wall or the fridge with pride.

While this activity is made for International Women's Day it is also a great activity to do anytime during March - Women's history month.
