DIY Hair Clip with Felt and Button

Every year, I try and make my daughters a few homemade Christmas gifts...like the felt Christmas tree ornament I wrote about in December. When I was looking at the list of things they needed this year, I decided to tackle the "hair clip" item. This simple craft took me about 15 minutes to make, and my girls love these easy DIY hair clips.

3 homemade hair clips made with felt and buttons.

How to Make a DIY Hair Clip with Felt and a Button

supplies for making hair clips with sheets of felt, button, needle and hair clip

two sheets of felt in complementary colours
plain metal hair clips
a button
thread
needle

1. cut a small circle out a piece of felt...they don't have to be a perfect circle, in fact they turn out much nicer if the shapes are imperfect.

2. cut a smaller circle out of the second piece of felt.

3. overlap the two pieces of felt and sew the two pieces of felt together with one or two stitches.

4. sew a button on top of the smallest piece of felt.

5. attach the felt/button piece to the hair clip by simply stitching it in place HOT TIP you can use a dab of hot glue if you prefer...but I just stitched mine in place.

6. done.

This craft is so easy to do that I was able to make my girls 8 different clips. I am already dreaming of making tiny heart clips for Valentine's Day. While I was working on this post, my youngest daughter came up with an amazing idea for storing these hair clips...more to follow on Thursday!
