April is coming to an end. At the beginning of the month I wrote about the World Autism Awareness Day and the Light it up Blue campaign that is working to raise awareness of Autism around the world. As the month comes to a close I really wanted to bring you a selection of great resources. Our family has been touched by Autism and to be honest, before it hit our family I knew very little about this disorder. What I have learned is that the Autism Spectrum is so vast that there really is no way to pin down what this diagnosis really means. The variance in the way Autism is expressed by people is a huge part of the challenge that faces parents of children with an ASD diagnosis. I continue to read and learn because I truly believe that through education we can find empathy, knowledge and hope.
Amazing Autism blogs
Mama’s Turn Now – How my son with Aspergers is teaching me to be happy
This Mama writes about how raising a son with Asperger’s, a daughter with severe asthma has taught her about love and happiness.
A Quiet Week in the House
I fell in love with this blog for its visual beauty and its soul. Laura, the author, has recently been diagnosed with Asperger’s and her son has been diagnosed with Autism. This quotation spoke to me “…I am thrilled to have a name to go along with the challenges and strengths that have followed me all my life”. How insightful is that?
A Boy With Asperger’s – The life of a mum with 3, one with Asperger’s
A wonderful site filled with inspiring stories from this mom of 3 young children. I especially love the Autism Love List you have to check it out.
Anabelle Listic – Artist – Autism – Jellyfish
I love the spirit of this blog. The author is a young woman navigating her way through life as an artist.
Activities and Book Resources
Be sure to stop by tomorrow when we wrap up Autism month with a Kitchen Counter Confidential interview with the mom/author of www.mom-ology. Learn about her incredible story and the valuable advice she has to offer to families with children who have been diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum.
