Snowy Day Felt Board for Kids

snow day felt board

Here in Canada winter is one of the most beautiful seasons. There is something very magical about the snow falling and piling up high. It is always so much fun to get outside and play in the snow. Last year, our daughter desperately wanted to have a sledding party for her 6th birthday party. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a lot of snow on the ground. Fortunately, there was just enough snow to sled. For the loot bags I made each child a simple snowy day felt board. These little boards are perfect for snowy or not-so-snowy winter days.

You will need
5 pieces of felt (green, yellow, red, white, blue and black)
blue thread
cereal box
resealable plastic bag, small

1. Cut cereal box into a rectangle, sized 5 1/2″ X 4″.

2. Cut 2 pieces of blue felt, sized 6″ X 4 1/2″…place the rectangles of felt on top of each other and stitch three sides…leaving one side open.

3. Slide the cereal box rectangle inside the felt envelope and stitch the opening closed…this is the felt board.

4. Cut out the snowy pieces to play with…snowy hill (white felt), 3 snowballs (white), sled (red), tree (green), sun (yellow).

5. Place the felt board and all the pieces inside the resealable plastic bag for storage.

This sweet little felt board is super portable, it can be popped in a mama’s purse or into a little one’s backpack. My daughters love pulling out this board and playing “snow day”. You really could make many more felt accessories to play with…snowman face pieces, birds, a little person, etc.

This is such a cute idea for the little ones! I think I’ll try something like this with my grandson.

This is seriously brilliant! I love the idea of putting the cereal box inside a felt pocket for a felt board!! So cute!!! Thanks for being part of the hop!

This is so cute and creative! You know, I have a lot of felt around the house and I think this would be the perfect craft to use it on.

Whenever my kids are stuck indoors, we always put on an audiobook to accompany whatever they’re doing. There’s lots of great sites to download them, but we use this one a lot because all of the stories are free and original. Here’s the link for anyone who is interested. http://www.twirlygirlshop.com/moral-stories-for-kids
