It is seriously hot outside! When it gets hot out I crave iced tea. There is something refreshing and invigorating about iced tea. Heat can really wear you out – tea helps pick you up. On the other hand, my daughters are away at my in-laws this week (insert happy smile) and a tall, cool glass of iced tea is just what I need to relax. Here is how I made iced tea 3 different ways.
Simple Refreshing Tea
3 Starbuck’s “Refresh” tea bags
mint sprig for garnish
1. steep the tea, in a heat proof container, in 3 cups of boiling water for 5 minutes
2. remove the tea bags and transfer the container to the fridge for 5 minutes
3. pour into a tall glass over ice
4. garnish with mint
Basil, Mint & Lemon “Tea”
1 sprig of basil
1 sprig of mint
3 lemon slices
1. steep the basil, mint and lemon slices in 2 cups of boiling water for 5 minutes
2. transfer to the fridge to cool
3. spoon off the basil, mint and lemon
4. pour into a glass over ice, garnish with either basil, mint or lemon…or all 3!
Jasmine Green Iced Tea with lemon and mint
3 Jasmine Green Tea bags
8 lemon slices
1 sprig of mint (for garnish)
1. steep the tea and lemon slices (in a heat proof container) in 3 cups of boiling water for 5 minutes
2. remove the tea bags and the lemon slices, and transfer the container to the fridge for 10 minutes
3. pour into a tall glass over ice
I used my Pyrex glass measuring bowl to steep the hot tea in, these are so handy. If you prefer a sweetened tea, add a teaspoon of honey when the water is hot. The honey will melt into your tea – taste and add more if you wish. I also added some frozen raspberries to the teas. You can freeze any berry by laying, in a single layer, it on a baking sheet and freezing it. You can even freeze pitted fruit by slicing them up and laying them on a baking sheet in a single layer. Can’t wait to freeze some fresh Ontario peaches and add them to drinks all fall long!
I’m going to grab a glass and a good book and head to my backyard loveseat! It has actually rained this morning…so things have cooled a very little bit. Enjoy this beautiful day!
